Cleaning shiny metal: Cleaning metal facades – smooth/shiny coated
A metal façade places high demands on cleaning and care. This applies in particular to aluminum and stainless steel surfaces, which require special cleaning methods. Particularly in the case of faded metal façades that have not been maintained over a long period of time, it is sometimes necessary to use abrasive products to restore chalking and faded façades to their former glory.
Depending on the location and weather conditions, maintenance cleaning should be carried out after 2-3 years at the latest and basic cleaning with subsequent preservation after 10 years at the latest. Aluminum and stainless steel façades require special attention in order to maintain their attractive properties. Preservation protects against rapid re-soiling and gives the surface a new depth of color.

Characteristics of metals and metal surfaces
Metals are a fascinating group of elements that stand out for their electrical conductivity and their ability to alloy. These properties make them indispensable materials in many areas, from industry and construction to household cleaning. Metal surfaces, which are characterized by their specific properties and applications, play a central role in this.
Some of the most important properties of metals and their surfaces are
- 1
Electrical conductivity: Metals are excellent conductors of electricity and heat, which makes them ideal for electrical applications.
- 2
Strength: Metals are extremely strong and can withstand high loads, making them preferred materials in construction.
- 3
Corrosion resistance: Stainless steels in particular are highly resistant to corrosion and can be used in aggressive environments without rusting.
- 4
Aesthetics: Metals such as copper and brass have an attractive appearance and are often used for decorative purposes.
Causes of soiling and corrosion
Contamination and corrosion are common challenges when using metals. Contamination is caused by various factors such as dirt, dust, grease and oils that are deposited on the metal surface. Corrosion, on the other hand, is a chemical process in which metals are attacked and destroyed by the action of oxygen, water and other chemical elements.
Some of the most common causes of soiling and corrosion are
- 1
Dirt and dust: These particles settle on the metal surface and lead to soiling, which can impair the appearance and functionality.
- 2
Grease and oils: These substances can also be deposited on the metal surface and cause stubborn stains.
- 3
Oxygen and water: When these elements come into contact with metal, corrosion can occur, which weakens and damages the metal.
- 4
Chemical elements: Certain chemical elements can also cause corrosion if they come into contact with metal.
